FEBRUARY/MARCH 2004 COMMENT SHEET SUMMARY 2. Do you have any suggestions for new, modified, or combined alternatives? If so, please explain. See responses to Comment Sheet Questionnaire #1. While some believe that the EIS planning process has provided a thorough study of all reasonable and foreseeable alternatives with adequate evaluation, others feel that there are too many alternatives. People comment that two to three alternatives are necessary to make a fair decision and that too many options focus toward developing more destructive options. Others comment on eliminating specific alternatives, including no-build and build alternatives. Reasons for suggested eliminations include loss of backcountry resources, extensive negative impacts, incalculable costs, and/or minor benefits. Others comment that the EIS planning study needs to evaluate more no-build alternatives at the same level of efforts as the build alternatives.
