During this phase of the project, public comments were submitted regarding the North Shore Road Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). Public comments were obtained through transcripts and other written correspondence collected at the public hearings (court reporter transcripts and comment sheets), and correspondence sent to the project post office box, the project website, and the National Park Service (NPS).
The public was requested to submit their comments the day of a public hearing, mail comments to the project post office box, or visit the project website to submit comments electronically. The initial deadline for submitting comments was March 20, 2006. However, the comment period was
later extended to April 7, 2006 because of formal requests made by environmental organizations and the public.
The statements within each main topic are actual comments submitted by the public. The quotes are meant to represent the main issues provided in the comments received following the release of the DEIS. In order to minimize duplication of text within previous comment summaries, the comments below only include concepts unique to this phase of the EIS planning process.
In order to fully understand the concerns, values, and issues associated with the project from the public’s perspective, the comments provided below are to be used in conjunction with the public comments summaries provided during previous phases of the planning process (available within each phase at the following link: http://www.northshoreroad .info/publicinvolvement.htm)
The tone and content of the following comments represent the views of the individuals who provided input and do not necessarily reflect actual events and/or factual information.
